Mr. Yushchenko met with the European Jewish Congress representative

President of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Yushchenko met with Mr. Viatcheslav (Moshe) Kantor, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the European Jewish Congress.
As the press service of the Head of State reports, in the course of the meeting Mr. V. Yushchenko emphasized that there would never be a “national issue” in Ukraine and stressed that he condemns any manifestation of xenophobia and anti-Semitism.

Mr. V. Yushchenko and Mr. V. Kantor discussed the possibility of holding in Ukraine in November 2007 of the Second World Holocaust Forum dedicated to the history of Babyn Yar and the Holocaust. According to the President, the Forum should be accompanied with an educational program in order to draw the society’s attention to these pages of history.

Mr. V. Yushchenko expressed his conviction that “Ukraine will be able to understand the Holocaust through the understanding of the tragedy of Holodomor”. The correct evaluation of these events, according to the President, is “the guarantee of the nation’s health”.
