Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor, President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) and the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) took part in the World Jewish Congress’ (WJC) Board of Governors’ session on January 29, 2008 in Jerusalem.
In his speech at the session EJC leader stated that Israeli authorities should grant Jews of Diaspora around the world the right to vote on political issues, equally with the Israeli citizens. The issue of the right of non-Israeli Jews to take part in the debate over the future of Jerusalem was the major topic discussed at the session unofficially.
“If anyone with at least one Jewish grandfather or grandmother has the right to make aliyah under the Law of Return, then we need to grant them equal rights,” said Kantor.
He also met with President of the State of Israel Shimon Peres and had talks with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, attending the WJC Session.
