Gazeta newspaper: European Jewish Congress elected a new President and Chairman of the Board of GovernorN

Mr. Pierre Besnainou was elected a new President of the European Jewish Congress, EJC press service informs. He was elected at the EJC General Assembly, which was held in Paris with the participation of 130 delegates representing 36 Jewish communities.
The General Assembly also adopted a decision to create a Board of Governors, which will be responsible for educational and cultural programs, as well as fundraising. Mr. Moshe Kantor, who initiated the International World Leaders Forum on January 27, 2005 in commemoration of the 60 th anniversary of KL Auschwitz-Birkenau liberation, was elected Chairman of the Board of Governors.

In addition, the General Assembly participants elected 17 members of the Executive and extended Mr. Serge Cwajgenbaum’s term of office as Secretary General. In keeping with the tradition of rotation of small communities within the Executive, Switzerland, Poland and Byelorussia yielded their places to Turkey, Spain and Romania.
