Yesterday President of the Russian Jewish Congress Moshe (Viatcheslav) Kantor met with Israeli President Moshe Katsav in Jerusalem to inform him that a new fund was founded with the aim of strengthening Jewish communities in Europe and fighting anti-Semitism and xenophobia. According to Kantor, seventeen Jewish communities as well as prominent Jewish communal leaders and philanthropists have already joined the fund from around Europe. The fund’s first project will serve to support Jewish youth and encourage their participation in the community life. At the meeting, Kantor informed President that the second event organized by the World Holocaust Forum Foundation (also established by Kantor) would take place on September 27, 2006, in Kyiv, Ukraine, to commemorate 65 years since the Nazis’ brutal massacre of Jews at Babi Yar. The first event of the series took place in January 2005 in Oswiecim, Poland, to commemorate the 60 th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and was attended by leaders from all over the world.
